ACTIVITIES

Metal-plate lathe processing

It is a type of processing with origins in antiquity and that still today, notwithstanding the notable steps forward made by the producers of machine tools, maintains within it the concepts and characteristics of the artisan that do not transfer (or only partially) to automated equipment capable of completely substituting for human touch. The process of metal-plate lathe processing consists of the progressive deformation of a metal disk by means of a utensil that, in the case of hand processing is similar to a rod furnished with an iron or metal point. In case, instead, of automatic or semi-automatic machine the tool is a roller of metal or a special plastic material. The processing is done in varying stages that end in the creation of the figure imposed by a die underneath. The effect of the stretching of the material often involves fine reductions in the initial gauge of the metal.

Deep-drawing

Pressing or deep-drawing consists of the transformation of a flat metal plate into a hollow object, more or less geometrically complex, using one or more steps. The more simple the geometry, the more shallow the cavity, and the more brief the succession of operations will be in order to complete the piece. Objects are affected also by the dimensions and the quality of the materials used. Piccoli Srl is furnished with 9 hydraulic presses with powers of up to 500 tons.

Dies and tools

All of the tools necessary for production are created on-site thanks to a workshop within the plant that serves as a studio for new designing prototype models and feasibility analyses for the new products that are regularly proposed by our customers.

Metals used

The metals used are those classically used in mechanical processing and the policy of Piccoli Srl has always provided for the purchasing of “Top” quality materials. Therefore, for iron we trust the ex code “P06” new code “DC06” with the maximum surface finish possible, and then for the stainless steel we prefer those with the highest content of nickel, even if we use more or less all of them (304, 316, 430) according to the diverse objectives that from time to time are posed by customers. Also for the non-ferrous metals the same purchasing policy is used: quality above all, and therefore aluminum 99.5, copper 99.5, and brass OT67. For all of the materials, the gauges provided begin from a minimum of .8mm and go to a maximum of 3.0mm. We also process iron and stainless steel micro-perforated plates.
